Fort Sisseton Festival

Help welcome the Frontier Army to Fort Sisseton. The military encampment is the result of the committed dedication and effort from re-enactors from across the heartland. Walk through the authentic military camp; watch the saber drills and foot-soldering. Located on the green, north of the North Barracks, this group welcomes questions and visitors. Gatling gun and cannon firing demonstrations will be done at the shooting range. Please check out the following military events:

Saturday, June 7

9:15 – 9:30 AM Flag Raising Ceremony, Parade Grounds
10:00 –11:00 AM Military Practice – Parade Grounds
12:00 – 1:00 PM Cavalry and Infantry Drills – Parade Grounds
1:00 – 2:00 PM Saber and Watermelon Drills – North of Military Camp
2:00 PM Sidesaddle Demonstration – North of Military Camp
3:00 PM Dutch Oven Pie Baking Contest Judging– Wadsworth Stage
3:00 – 4:00 PM Military Shoot – Shooting Range
4:00 – 5:00 PM Cannon, Gatling Gun Demo – Shooting Range
6:30 – 6:45 PM Flag Lowering Ceremony – Parade Grounds

 Saber Course and Watermelon Feed – Saturday Afternoon – North of Military Camp
The 7th Cavalry will display their riding skills as they maneuver through a mounted saber course. After the watermelons are carved stay around and join in on the feast.
