Lake Louise Full for the First Time in Eight Years

MILLER, S.D. – Following several years of low water, Lake Louise near Miller has reached capacity for the first time since 2001.

“After being as much as 13 feet low over the past several years, the water in the lake was running over the spillway on Wednesday,” said Dale Simpson, park manager at Lake Louise Recreation Area. “We’re excited to get some boaters and skiers back to the lake.”

Lake Louise Recreation Area is a popular camping and fishing destination in the area. The state-owned area offers a playground as well as swimming, hiking and picnicking opportunities along with a 39-site campground and two camping cabins. Several weekday and weekend campsites are still available at Lake Louise for the summer months, and reservations can be made 90-days prior to arrival.
