All boat ramps on Lake Oahe now open
PIERRE, S.D. – For the first time since 2001, the water on Lake Oahe has reached a level high enough to open all 25 state maintained boat ramps. The last ramp on Lake Oahe became operational on Monday at Okobojo Point.
“Fisherman and boaters will be amazed at the change in water levels when they return to Lake Oahe this year,” said Doug Hofer, state park director. “The lake level is already above normal, and has raised 23 feet since last year. And it’s still rising.”
Hofer anticipates good fishing and lots of visitors to the state parks and recreation areas on Lake Oahe. The following campgrounds on Lake Oahe take camping reservations 90 days prior to arrival:
Cow Creek Recreation Area near Pierre
Farm Island Recreation Area near Pierre
Indian Creek Recreation Area near Mobridge
Oahe Downstream Recreation Area near Pierre
West Bend Recreation Area southeast of Pierre
West Whitlock Recreation Area west of Gettysburg
Boaters are advised to use caution at Foster Bay and Peoria Flats boat ramps. Extensive underwater and floating hazards exist in these areas. Roads have been temporarily impacted by spring runoff at a few locations; however, repairs will be completed as soon as possible.
