Fourth Mountain Lion Harvested by Lion Hunter
PIERRE, S.D. – A hunter specifically targeting mountain lions recently bagged the fourth cat of South Dakota’s first mountain lion season.
The most recent lion taken was an 8-10 year-old male that weighed 141 pounds.
"The lion was taken late Wednesday afternoon and was most likely a dominant male who controlled a territory," said Game, Fish and Parks Game Management Biologist Steve Griffin of Rapid City. "The cat was harvested about three-miles west of the Rapid City limits by a hunter using a fawn distress call to attract the lion."
