Walk in the Park Program in South Dakota State Parks

Walk in the Park programs are held throughout the year in SD state parks. The Walk in the Park program is a series of educational, guided hikes held throughout the year in South Dakota state parks, recreation areas and nature preserves.

Parks staff and volunteers lead the programs, which cover topics like local plants and wildlife, history and area legends. Individuals, families, scout troops and church and school groups find the walks a perfect way to explore and learn about nature.

The walks are co-sponsored by the SD Department of Health and the SD Department of Education to promote healthy living through physical activity.

The Walk in the Park programs are free for participants. A park entrance license is required in all designated fee areas.

Click here for a calendar of Walk in the Park programs and other events in SD state parks.
