Eastern Trails


Trails open December 1 in the eastern part of the state and December 15 in the Black Hills. Grooming operations are dependant upon weather. 

The maps are normally available in October for the upcoming season.

Please note: Off-highway vehicles (OHVs/ATVs) can not ride on designated state snowmobile trails,

Four Lakes Trail  
including the areas around De Smet, Willow Lake, Lake Preston, Badger, Ramona, and other communities

Snowfall: 6in
Trail Conditions: Grooming is in progress. Trails are in great condition.

Couteau des Prairie Trail  
including the areas around Watertown, Lake Norden, Lake Poinsett, Arlington, Brookings, Aurora, Toronto, Clear Lake, and other communities.

Snowfall: 8-12in
Trail Conditions: Trails are in great conditions after recent snowfall. Some bare spots are showing due to wind blown trails.

Whetstone Valley Trail  
including the areas around Revillo, Milbank, Corona, and Hartford Beach State Park

Snowfall: 6-8in
Trail Conditions: Trails are in great condition with the recent snowfall. Some bare spots are showing due to blowing snow.

Dakota Midland Trail  
including the areas around Westport, Columbia, Aberdeen, and Richmond Lake Recreation Area

Snowfall:
Trail Conditions: The 93 mile trail system is closed, due to flooded ditches; for the 2009-2010 snowmobile season. This means no trails will be signed or groomed this winter. If you have any questions or comments please call (605) 773-6671.

Siouxland Trail  
including the areas around Sioux Falls, Garretson, Sherman, Dell Rapids, Colman, and Madison

Snowfall: 6-8in
Trail Conditions: Trails are in great condition. Some bare spots are showing due to blowing snow.

Glacial Lakes Trail  
including the areas around Webster, Roslyn, Eden, and Lake City

Snowfall: 6-8in
Trail Conditions: Grooming is in progress with great trail conditions.

Trail Conditions: Trails are in great condition with some bare spots showing. Grooming is in progress

including the areas around Sisseton, Rosholt, New Effington, Claire City, Veblen, and Sica Hollow State Park

Trail Conditions: Trails are in great condition with blowing snow. Grooming will start mid-week.

including the areas around Iroquois, Huron, Alpena, and Woonsocket

Trail Conditions: Trails are in good to great condition.

Trail Conditions: Trail conditions range from good to great in this area with the wind blown trails.

Trail Conditions: Some bare spots are starting to show. Trails are in great condition.
