  Snowmobile Trail Conditions

Snowmobile Trails Program

This information is also available by calling
the Sno Wats line at 1-800-445-3474.


Trails open December 1 in the eastern part of the state and December 15 in the Black Hills. Grooming operations are dependant upon weather. 

The maps are normally available in October for the upcoming season.

Please note: Off-highway vehicles (OHVs/ATVs) can not ride on designated state snowmobile trails,

Four Lakes Trail  

Snowfall: No new snow this week
Trail Conditions: The trail system received 5 to 7 inches of snow last weekend and grooming operations have begun!

Couteau des Prairie Trail  

Snowfall: No significant snow
Trail Conditions: There is currently no grooming because of low snow conditions.

Whetstone Valley Trail  

Snowfall: No new snow this week
Trail Conditions: About 7 inches of snow fell over the weekend. The northern part of the trail was groomed but the snow is fluffy and conditions are not great.

Dakota Midland Trail  

Snowfall: 2 inches of new snow
Trail Conditions: The trail was last groomed on Friday, Feb. 15. Conditions are fair.

Siouxland Trail  

Snowfall: No new snow this week.
Trail Conditions: Snow is spotty along the trail system.

Glacial Lakes Trail  

Snowfall: No new snow this week
Trail Conditions: About one-half of the trail was groomed on January 4. Roslyn to Lake City is good and Roslyn to Webster is okay.

James River Valley Trail  

Snowfall: No new snow this week
Trail Conditions: The trail system received about 6 inches of new snow, but it will take a little more before conditions are good for grooming.

Northeast Trail  

Snowfall: No new snow this week.
Trail Conditions: Grooming took place Dec. 14 and 15. Trail conditions are good on some places and bare in others. Ride with caution.

Heartland Trail  

Snowfall:
Trail Conditions: Trail conditions are reported by the local snowmobile club. We will update these conditions as the information is provided. Thanks and have a great winter!

Faulkton Trail

Trail Conditions: The trail system received about 6 inches of light, feathery snow. No grooming yet.

Trailbusters Trail  

Snowfall: 0
Trail Conditions: Trail grooming continues, with deep snow in the ditches. Conditions are good to excellent.
