  Snowmobile Trail Conditions

Snowmobile Trails Program

the Sno Wats line at 1-800-445-3474.


Trails open December 1 in the eastern part of the state and December 15 in the Black Hills. Grooming operations are dependant upon weather. 

The maps are normally available in October for the upcoming season.

Please note: Off-highway vehicles (OHVs/ATVs) can not ride on designated state snowmobile trails,

 

Eastern Trail Conditions
Updated during the season as reports
are received from local clubs.

Four Lakes Trail  
including the areas around De Smet, Willow Lake, Lake Preston, Badger, Ramona, and other communities

Snowfall: No new snow to report
Trail Conditions: Grooming operations have begun. Snow is scattered due to high winds so ride with caution

Couteau des Prairie Trail  
including the areas around Watertown, Lake Norden, Lake Poinsett, Arlington, Brookings, Aurora, Toronto, Clear Lake, and other communities.

Snowfall: No new snow fall to report
Trail Conditions: Grooming continues in the Clear Lake area. Trails are in great condition

Whetstone Valley Trail  
including the areas around Revillo, Milbank, Corona, and Hartford Beach State Park

Snowfall: No new snow to report
Trail Conditions: The North loop was groomed on the 12-23. Trail are fair to good.

Dakota Midland Trail  
including the areas around Westport, Columbia, Aberdeen, and Richmond Lake Recreation Area

Snowfall: 1 inch of new snow
Trail Conditions: Trails are in great condition.

Siouxland Trail  
including the areas around Sioux Falls, Garretson, Sherman, Dell Rapids, Colman, and Madison

Snowfall: 3-5 inches of new snow
Trail Conditions: Their is currently no grooming because of low snow conditions

Glacial Lakes Trail  
including the areas around Webster, Roslyn, Eden, and Lake City

Snowfall: 2 inches of new snow
Trail Conditions: Grooming has been put on hold due to groomer repairs. Ride with caution

James River Valley Trail  
including the areas around Redfield, Tulare, Frankfort, and Ashton

Snowfall: No new snow to report.
Trail Conditions: Drifts are hard and rough by the fences and soft closest to the roadside. Grooming operations will start again after Christmas.

Northeast Trail  
including the areas around Sisseton, Rosholt, New Effington, Claire City, Veblen, and Sica Hollow State Park

Snowfall: No new snow to report.
Trail Conditions: Grooming operations have begun. Trail conditions are fair to good.

Heartland Trail  
including the areas around Iroquois, Huron, Alpena, and Woonsocket

Snowfall: No new snow to report.
Trail Conditions: Grooming has begun. Blowing snow changes trail conditions by the day. Ride with caution.

including the areas around Mellette, Chelsea, Cresbard, Faulkton, and Orient
