Pickerel Lake Recreation Area

Situated in the heart of the Glacial Lakes Region, Pickerel Lake offers 77 campsites in two campgrounds and access to excellent fishing waters. The swimming beaches are popular spots during hot summer days. A hiking trail in each campground introduces you to the park's many plants and animals. The two campgrounds (East and West Pickerel) are located on opposite sides of the lake, but well within driving distance allowing park visitors to take advantage of what each has to offer. Each campground has a playground, and comfort station with showers. The West Unit also features three accessible camping cabins.

Pickerel Lake
Noted for its cool, spring-fed waters, Pickerel Lake is one of the deepest natural lakes in the state. The 955-acre lake bears an American Indian name meaning "where you spear long fish." Excursion boats were common until the early 1900's. A fish hatchery was built in 1929 and abandoned in 1979, when a new facility was built at Blue Dog Lake.
