Volunteer your time
and energy to conservation agencies and organizations in efforts to restore
cottonwood forests for future bald eagle habitat. Local Pierre, South
Dakota organizations include the Missouri Breaks Audubon Chapter and the High
Plains Wildlife Association.

Volunteer to care for injured
eagles, hawks, owls and other birds of prey at a local raptor rehabilitation center.

If you are aware of a bald eagle
nest or roost site in South Dakota, notify the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and
Parks or the US Fish and Wildlife Service and work with them to protect the area.

If you find a dead or wounded eagle
in South Dakota, notify the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at 605-224-1001 or call your
local Game, Fish and Parks Conservation Officer. If treated promptly at a wildlife
rehabilitation center, such as the Oahe Wildlife Center in Pierre, many injured raptors
can be returned to the wild.

Be aware of legislation affecting
conservation efforts. Contact your elected representatives at all government levels.

Avoid disturbing bald eagles,
particularly during the nesting and wintering seasons. Always observe these birds from a
distance.
