How to Make a Data Request

Submit a written request to the South Dakota Natural Heritage Program specifying the information needed and the purpose for which the information will be used. Click here to complete a data request form online or call Doug Backlund at (605) 773-4345 for more information.

The recipient must obtain permission of the Wildlife Division before publication of any data and the source of the information must be cited in any publication. Data cannot be resold.

The fee structure for data requests is as follows:

For Biological Data:

Computer Searches $30.00 per search
Manual Searches and Analysis $30.00 per hour

Considerations:

South Dakota State Agencies-No charge for reasonable requests (less than two person days work).

Private for profit groups and Federal Agencies-To be charged on a full fee basis unless provided in a Cooperative Agreement or Memorandum of Understanding.

Non-profit Conservation Groups and Data Suppliers-Fees to be reduced for significant contribution to the database.

Checks are to be written to "South Department of Game, Fish and Parks", processed through the Department financial officer and placed in the Game and Fish Fund.
