Youth Deer

Though South Dakota's youth deer licenses are unlimited in number and valid statewide, hunters must still submit an application for a license. This is done by acquiring the current youth deer application, completing it and submitting it with payment to the license office. Applicants can also apply online with a credit card. See links below.

South Dakota’s youth deer licenses are open to both resident and nonresident youth ages 12-17 (age 11 if will turn 12 by Dec. 31) who have successfully completed a hunter safety course from any U.S. state.

Applicants may have up to five (5) SD youth deer licenses.

Fluorescent Orange:

Big game licensees hunting with a firearm in SD must wear at least one exterior garment of fluorescent orange while hunting. Garments include hat, shirt, vest, jacket, coat or sweater. Turkey hunters do not need to wear fluorescent orange.
