SD Shooting Preserve License Requirements HUNTING LICENSE REQUIREMENTS FOR 2007 (include one of the following): NONRESIDENTS Nonresident Shooting Preserve licenses:
Any of the above three licenses are valid on shooting preserve acres for those bird species listed on the operators 2007-08 preserve permit, or
RESIDENTS One of the following licenses would qualify a resident to hunt small game on shooting preserves for the calendar year: 1) Resident Small Game License ($29.00), 2) Resident Combination License – small game and fishing ($45.00), 3) Resident 1-Day Small Game License ($10.00), 4) Resident Youth Small Game Licenses - ages of 12 through 15 years ($5.00), or 5) Resident Junior Combination License for fishing, small game, and trapping - ages 16 through 18 years ($25.00). These licenses can be purchased on 12/15/2006 and will be valid through 1/31/2008. The South Dakota Legislature imposed a mandatory $5.00 surcharge on most hunting licenses to provide funds for wildlife depredation programs and additional public hunting access. This $5.00 fee has been included with the above license fees. Youth licenses (12 through 18) are exempt from this surcharge. A shooting preserve license allows a person to hunt ONLY the birds listed on each preserve operators permit and hunt only on licensed private shooting preserves. The Nonresident shooting preserve licenses can be purchased from regular license agents statewide or via our GFP WEB page at www.sdgfp.info. Any shooting preserve operator who wishes to sell hunting licenses should contact GF&P Licensing in Pierre (605-773-3926) for further information. A shooting preserve license allows a hunter to take ONLY those species listed on the operator's preserve permit. Birds must be released before hunting is started. The total harvest (including both released and wild birds) cannot exceed 100% of each species released. All bird species (both M & W) listed on an operators shooting preserve permit must have kill tags placed on the birds after harvest on the preserve, throughout the entire shooting preserve season. A state law allows licensed nonresident hunters to hunt, take, or kill jackrabbits, prairie dogs, gophers, ground squirrels, chipmunks, coyotes, red fox, grey fox, skunk, porcupine, marmot, English house sparrow, European starling, crow, or unbanded undomesticated pigeon (rock dove). Such nonresident hunters must possess a nonresident small game license or a nonresident shooting preserve license. A nonresident small game license is valid for hunting those animals permitted by the nonresident predator/varmint license from date of purchase until the end of the license year. However, a nonresident shooting preserve license is valid for hunting predators and varmints only on licensed shooting preserve acres during the shooting preserve season. Other game species may be taken with the appropriate licenses and during the legal seasons, according to state laws and regulations. |
