2008 YOUTH WATERFOWL SEASON

General Waterfowl Information

Request Information

License Agents

  • Youths are being given the opportunity to hunt waterfowl before the regular seasons open.
  • Identification will be important.  Ducks will not be in full plumage, making them hard to identify.
  • Resident youths ages 12 to 15 must purchase the youth small game and Migratory Bird Certification, but are exempt from buying the federal waterfowl stamp.

SEASON DATE. The season dates will be set at the commission meeting July 10.

HUNTING UNIT: Statewide.

SHOOTING HOURS. One-half hour before sunrise to sunset.

DAILY LIMIT: The duck limit for the youth waterfowl season is the same as during the regular duck season. Likewise, the goose limit includes only Canada geese, which is the same as during the regular Canada goose season (3), except where the early fall Canada goose season is open, the Canada goose limit is the same as for that season (5).

NONTOXIC SHOT. Youths may not use or possess lead shot when hunting water-fowl during this one-day season.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Youth must be properly licensed
  • Youth must be under 16 years of age
  • Youth must be accompanied by an adult (18 or older). The adult can carry a firearm for waterfowl, but may only hunt Canada geese (no ducks) during the early fall Canada goose season. Adults may participate in other open seasons.
  • All other restrictions are the same as during the regular waterfowl seasons.
