Becoming an Outdoor Family

Families learn camping skills, like fire building, and participate in other activities at the Becomming An Outdoor Family Program.

2008 Becoming an Outdoor Family Weekend will be at Chief White Crane Recreation Area, near Yankton, June 20-22!

The Becoming an Outdoor Family (BOF) program grew out of the South Dakota Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) workshops and the desire of the Parks & Recreation Division to provide an opportunity for families to learn about the outdoor world and about how to enjoy it...together.

This event is held each summer at one of South Dakota's State Parks & Recreation Areas. The 2008 workshop will be held at Chief White Crane Recreation Area near the city of Yankton in southeastern South Dakota on June 20-22. Each year, the workshop features sessions on a variety of outdoor recreation, typically including topics such as canoeing, fishing, outdoor cooking, nature, GPS (global positioning system) and more.
