Choose Fort Sisseton Historic State Park for your next gathering. Let the restored buildings and spacious grounds of the late 19th-century frontier fort be the setting for your event. With rental facilities, overnight accommodations and a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities, it will be an event you’ll never forget.

The rich history of Fort Sisseton stretches back to its founding in 1864. For the 25 years that followed, soldiers served and lived at the fort, protecting and ensuring the peaceful settlement of Dakota Territory. This frontier legacy lives on in the Fort Sisseton of today. Fourteen original buildings, preserved and restored, take visitors back to another place and time. Not only is Fort Sisseton a top site for learning about frontier and military life, the brick buildings and spacious grounds also play host to events of every occasion and size.

Facilities at the fort can accommodate everything from small meetings to large elegant weddings. Others have selected the fort to host their reunions, birthday parties, anniversaries, business retreats and other special gatherings.

Rental Facilities
South Barracks

Built in 1864-65 by civilian artisans and soldiers, this beautiful split fieldstone and mortarExterior of the South Barracks at Fort Sisseton. building is ideal for weddings, receptions, reunions and meetings. Many amenities have been added, granting the use of modern conveniences without disrupting the historic atmosphere.

Price: $75/day

       ~ Does not include cooking utensils, dishware, silverware, roasting ovens, coffee pots or dish cloths.

User Responsibilities for all Facility Rentals
  • A couple leaves the South Barracks following their wedding ceremony and reception inside.Facility users are responsible for their own catering.
  • Parking area provided near the grounds.

  • Vehicles entering parks designated as fee areas need to have a valid park entrance license. Discount special event park entrance licenses (in increments of 50) may be available for groups.
  • Facilities available at least one day prior to event for setting-up and decorating.
  • Facility users bring in their own decorations to enhance the setting.
  • Park provides 50 gallon trash receptacles.
  • Facility users responsible for basic cleaning after event.
  • Many fees for group rentals are required to be paid in advance.
  • Overnight accommodations, including campsites and cabins, are available on the fort grounds. Several resorts area also located in the area.

Fun at the Fort
Canoeing at Ft. SissetonFort Sisseton offers a wide array of historical and recreational fun. Activities are scheduled regularly and can be tailored specifically to your group’s needs. Please contact the park for arrangements.
