With all there is to do and see, South Dakota state
parks make the perfect site for your group camping outing.
Group campsites are available in several
state parks and recreation areas by contacting the reservation call center at
(800) 710-CAMP (2267) from Nov. 1 to Feb. 1 for the upcoming reservation
season.
Requirements
To qualify as a group reservation, a minimum of 10 sites must be reserved.
Reservations can only be made for those sites designated as group sites. A
limited number of group sites are available in each park. Prime sites are
not included. Cabins and picnic shelters may be included in some parks (see
below).
At Lewis and Clark Recreation Area, group camping sites are located
within six separate loops. All sites within a
loop must be reserved for a group reservation.
At Custer State Park, group camping takes
place in separate group areas and a $4/person per night fee applies ($80
minimum). There are no designated sites.
Reservations for group sites are available for arrival dates during the
reservation season of each park. A two-night minimum stay is required.
Group sites are not available for holiday weekends and some special event
weekends.
Non-profit youth groups can make reservations for the two youth group
areas in Custer State Park by contacting the reservation center.
Non-profit youth groups wanting reservations in all other parks should
contact the park directly.
Fees
Regular per-site camping fees apply. Camping cabins and picnic shelters
(if available) also abide by the normal fee schedule for each park.
At Custer State Park, group camping takes place in separate group areas
and a $4/person per night fee applies ($80 minimum). Non-profit youth groups are eligible for a discounted rate, please
contact the reservation call center for more information.
A valid park entrance license is required.
All camping fees must be paid at the time the
reservation is made. Payment can be made by credit card over the phone, or by check or
money order if mailed within 10 days of making the reservation. There is
a $5 per site non-refundable reservation fee, which is not applicable to
South Dakota residents.
Additional Sites / Double-Ups
Each of the parks accepting group
reservations has a limited number of
campsites available for group reservations (see
below). Additional sites or facilities are subject to the regular
90-day window
requirements.
Double-ups are allowed on group reservation sites, as
long as the site is a designated double-up site. Double-up fees can be
paid through the reservation center or at the park when you arrive.
Cancellations
If a group reservation is cancelled more
than 90 days before arrival, a full refund is given. If the reservation
is cancelled less than 90 days before arrival, the
fee charged will equal the cost of 10 campsites for one night of camping.
At Custer State Park, the cancellation fee after 90 days is $80 (the minimum camping fee for one
night).
There is also a $5 per site non-refundable reservation fee, which is not
applicable to South Dakota residents.
Group Camping Site Numbers
Each site includes electricity, a fire grate and picnic table unless
otherwise designated. Please see the campground maps of each park for
information on electricity.
