Summer Nature Programs

The staff at Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve host a number of nature
programs throughout the year, both at Adams Homestead and at nearby Spirit Mound.

Natural and Cultural History Classes for Winter

Discover the unique natural and cultural history of South Dakota from the Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve’s friendly staff and volunteers.


Little Naturalist Program:
Furry Friends – Friday, February 22
These programs are for children ages 2 to 4 years old and their parents or guardian.  Toddlers will learn about each theme through games, crafts, stories and songs.  Each class starts at 10:00 a.m.  Free fun for the little ones.  Please pre-register by calling (605) 232-0873.

Beginner Cross Country Ski Classes:
Saturday, February 9
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Are you looking for some fun exercise during the cold, blustery season?  Are you ready to wake up those tired legs?  Join us for a beginner cross country ski class and learn the basic skills to help you enjoy this excellent workout.  Limited amount of skis and boots available, so call soon.  Limit to 15 participants.  Please call (605) 232-0873 to pre-register.

Farm, Folk, Family & Fun Concert – Saturday, March 8
Join Marty DeWitt, District Supervisor from Palisades State Park, as he entertains us with an assortment of traditional, contemporary and original songs all related to life on the prairie.   Also, enjoy samples of wonderful wild game recipes before the entertainment starts.  Free will donation appreciated.
Wild game taste test – 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Concert – 7:15 p.m.

Birds and Bagels (Walk in the Park Program) – Saturday, April 19 at 8:00 a.m.
Enjoy some yummy bagels before we venture out on trails to look for some feathered residents.  For more information and to pre-register, please call (605) 232-0873.

Tri-State Trails Tour – Saturday, May 17. 
The Siouxland Trails Foundation will host its annual family-friendly bike ride again this year.  All proceeds from the ride will go toward the development and promotion of the Siouxland Trail system.  Adams Homestead will be one of the stops during the ride.  For more information, visit www.siouxlandtrails.org.
