Lake Alvin Recreation Area

Although small in size, Lake Alvin has become a very popular area. This 59-acre park is best known for its beach facilities and excellent fishing. Its proximity to both Sioux Falls and Newton Hills State Park make it a great place to enjoy a day on the beach.

The wheelchair accessible fishing dock extends out over Lake Alvin, allowing people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the lake.

  • Located 4 miles east, 1 mile north of Harrisburg off County 135  Location map (Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader.)  DOT Road Report

  • Open year-round

  • Park entrance license required: $5/day/vehicle or $23 for an annual pass

  • Camping: No camping. Day use only.

  • Recreation: Boating. Fishing. Wheelchair accessible picnic shelter. Picnic area. Swimming.

  • Swimming/Beaches: Swimming beach. No lifeguard on duty. No alcohol allowed on beach. Swim at your own risk.

  • Fishing/Boating: Boat ramp. Boat motor restriction: no wake. Accessible fishing dock. Walleye, northern pike, crappie, perch, catfish, bullheads. Fishing license required.

  • Park maps: None available.

The focus of Lake Alvin Recreation Area is water recreation. The park has become a popular gathering place for swimmers, boaters and anglers.

A wheelchair accessible picnic shelter and an alcohol-free beach provide a great setting for families to spend the day in the sun.

An accessible fishing pier makes the lake ideal for people of all ages and abilities. Anglers can expect to snag walleye, northern pike, crappie, perch, catfish and bullheads.
