On the map, the circled numbers designate the trailheads.

You will find parking, self-sale trail passes, vault toilets and tables at all trailheads (no toilets or tables at White Elephant). Additional services found near the trailheads are designated below. Water is available seasonally at most trailheads.

1. Deadwood Trailhead, Mile Post 108.8:   Near the old railroad depot on Sherman Street in Deadwood.

2. Kirk Trailhead, MP 105.3: 1/2 mile south of Lead on Hwy. 85 and 1 1/2 miles west.

2A. Lead Trailhead, MP 103.7: 

3. Sugarloaf Trailhead, MP 103.3 1 mile southwest of Lead on Hwy. 85. This trailhead is not on the main line, but is part of the fantail loop.

4. Englewood Trailhead, MP 98.5:  6 miles west of Hwy. 385 on Brownsville Rd.

5. Dumont Trailhead, MP 92.6: Warming shelter with woodburning stove.   8.7 miles north of Rochford on Forest Service Road #17.

6. Rochford Trailhead, MP 82.6:     Near the Rochford Fire Station.

7. Mystic Trailhead, MP 74.7:  12 miles north of Hill City on Mystic Road.

9. The Mountain Trailhead, MP 49.6: 3 miles north of Custer on Hwy 385.

10. Harbach Park Trailhead, MP 44.5:  Harbach City Park in Custer, across the street from the Chamber of Commerce.

10A. Custer Spur to Stockade Lake, MP 45: 3.2 mile spur connects the trail to Stockade lake - this section is paved, no horse traffic allowed.

11. White Elephant Trailhead, MP 35.7: 3.6 miles north of Pringle Trailhead, along Hwy. 385 (no toilets or tables).

12. Pringle Trailhead, MP 32.1:  West side of Hwy. 385 near the Pringle Fire Station.

13. Minnekahta Trailhead, Mile Post 16.2: 1/2 mile east of the Jct. of Hwys. 18 and 89.

14. Edgemont Trailhead, Mile Post 0.0:   South end of Main Street in Edgemont.
