    Habitat Management: Where to Start

 

 

Habitat management is crucial for increasing desired wildlife species on your property and throughout the state.  South Dakotans are fortunate to live in a state with a great diversity of landscapes, each with their own potential for their respective wildlife communities.  Wildlife species are highly dependent on what plant communities that are found on the landscape.  By making sound land management decisions any private landowner can significantly improve habitats for resident as well as migratory species.  As private lands habitat biologists we generally take landowners through a series to steps to determine what will work for their specific situation:
