Bird enthusiasts can celebrate the spectacular spring
migration through Sand Lake Refuge and the James River Valley during Eagle Day,
which is set from Noon to 5 p.m., Sunday March 28 at Sand Lake National Wildlife
Refuge near Aberdeen.
"Eagle Day is an event the entire family will enjoy," said
Beth A. Ullenberg, outdoor recreation planner for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service. "All events and activities are FREE and take place at the refuge
headquarters."
This year, activities will include two special programs:
At 2 p.m., there will be a Live Bird of Prey Release as
Virginia Trexler-Myren from Pierre joins us to release rehabilitated birds back
into the wild!
At 3 p.m., kids of all ages will enjoy "Prairie Delights", a
hands-on, interactive program about prairie wildlife.
Wildlife-Experiences, Inc. from Rapid City will also be on
hand all day with a LIVE Bald Eagle and a variety of owls and hawks. Other
activities during the day include Guided Wildlife Tours, Horse & Wagon Rides,
Bird Bingo, The Wildlife Wizard, displays and exhibits and lots more!
Sand Lake Refuge Headquarters is located 27-miles northeast of
Aberdeen, on Brown County Highway 16. To get to Sand Lake from Aberdeen take Hwy
12 east for six miles to Brown County 16 at Bath Corner, head north and follow
brown directional signs. Or take Hwy 281 north to Hwy 10 east and follow brown
directional signs.
